Galaxy Masquerade Jury 2016

Naam/Nickname:  Ramona Kusters (Gambette Cosplay) Cosplayer since:  2011 (Domino) Who is Ramona Kusters? Hi! I am Ramona, also known as Gambette Cosplay in the world of cosplay. This name comes from my very first homemade cosplay; a female version of Marvel’s Gambit. In 2011 I started to cosplay as Gambette and Domino, but I’ve been making costumes from the moment my grandmother taught me how to use her sewing machine to make dresses for dolls and Barbies. In my teens I began to LARP (Live Action Role Play) and from that moment on I decided to make my own costumes and use them to cosplay. Fast forward to 2016: Currently I’m trying to use every aspect of cosplaying to continuously improve my skills; where I once started with costume projects that were mainly focused on sewing, I now make my own props (swords, shield, books, etc.), work with leather and make chainmail. In addition, I have a horse that cosplays along with me; she’s been trained for show fights and attendance at big events, and I put on shows with her at Elfia e.a. Ever since I lost my grandmother halfway through my teenage years, I have, after taking a short break, learned all the skills I now possess by investigating different techniques and simply trying them out one at a time. ‘You can’t’ doesn’t exist for me, there’s only ‘not yet’. As a judge, I will mainly pay attention to the preparatory work, details and craftsmanship combined with experience of the cosplayer itself. Don’t hesitate to sign up, even though you’ve only just taken your first step in the world of cosplay, because even beginners can do an outstanding job! The standard is as high as you make it, with time and dedication you can go a long way! Name/Nickname:  Ronald in’t Groen (Mr. J’s Fortress of Fun) Cosplayer since:  August 2014 Who is Ronald in ‘t Groen? My name is Ronald in 't Groen, but on Facebook I’m better known as Mr. J's Fortress of Fun. I mainly cosplay as the Joker, which won’t be a surprise when you see the name of my Facebook page. However, I’ve also started to cosplay as Rumplestiltskin from Once Upon a Time recently. Since August 2014 I’ve stood on the stage as a contestant various times, including on FACTS, on Tomocon 2015 (where I was the winner of the Mis(s)ter Election) and, yes, on the previous edition of Imagicon (March 2015), where I finished second in the category Best Act. Another hobby of mine next to cosplaying is theatresport. In this variant of acting people have to improvise; in essence, they have to act without previously-supplied or fixed text, and only rely on suggestions (cues) from fellow players and/or the audience. As a judge I’ll pay particular attention to a contestant’s ‘stage presence’. What kind of story do you tell, and how do you go about it? What’s the entertainment value of your act? In closing I want to wish all future participants good luck and I hope you have fun at the Galalxy Masquerade! Name/Nickname:  Javanne (Cosplay Vanne) Cosplayer since:  2004 Who is Javanne? Hello everyone! My name is Javanne, better known as Cosplay Vanne in the world of cosplay. I’ve been cosplaying ever since 2004 and I’m best known for my cosplays as Rikku Lady Luck & Thief of Final Fantasy X-2. Over the years I’ve had many fantastic adventures thanks to cosplay. Costumes of mine have been put on display at several exhibitions, I’ve been a live model at various comic book days for cartoonists, I’ve worked as a Lady Gaga look-a- like on television, sometimes I’m hired to cosplay a specific character at events and promotions, I’m the Dutch ‘Elsje’ (Google it) and photos of my ‘Roodhaar’ cosplay (Carrots/Ember from the Storm Comics) have been included in Don Lawrence’s new comic about the character! I’m also an entertainer for childrens’ parties (mostly as a princess) and I visit libraries and nurseries to read to young children as the ‘Read-To-Princess’. I also cosplay at charities. In the past I’ve often participated in cosplay contests and I’ve won the following awards: Best Solo Act (Chibion & Animecon 2007), Best Act Cospay Competition (Animecon 2006), 3rd place Cosplay Competition (Jrock-con 2006) and 1st place Cosplay Competition (Abunai! 2005). As a judge I’ll mainly pay attention to the details of a costume, how similar it looks to the original and how much/what kind of work has gone into creating it. During the acts I’ll be looking at the entertainment value: Is it a story? Is it entertaining? I love a good show! A few tips: Being on stage can be very exciting. Go out and do whatever it is you’d normally be afraid of doing. You've never sung before? This is your chance! There’s no better place to be your character than on the stage. Also, try to use the whole stage, don’t stand in one place, and if your character has lines, makj sure you articulate properly. Finally: Above all, just have fun, it shows, and show me a great act. Break a leg!
